Project Overview

The VR Upskill Solar Manufacturing Training initiative is a groundbreaking project designed to address the growing needs of the solar manufacturing industry for skilled workers. This project is a collaboration between Key Tech Labs, an innovative training institute, and LED Trail, a leader in the manufacturing of high-quality solar panels. Together, they aim to transform traditional training methodologies by integrating cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR) technology to create a comprehensive learning management system (LMS).

Objective:

Objective:

To design bespoke training modules that facilitate the transition of workers from basic to specialized roles within the solar manufacturing industry.

To construct a virtual replica of SilFab Solar’s WA facilities using advanced CAD and BIM technologies.

To develop customized VR training simulations that offer hands-on experience in a virtual setting.

To integrate a micro-certification system within the LMS to monitor and validate the competencies and progress of each trainee.

In collaboration with SilFab Solar, we will create a curriculum that mirrors the actual processes at SilFab Solar’s facilities. This initiative involves a visit to the Burlington, WA facility, where our training team will record and analyze SilFab’s current training procedures. These insights will form the basis of a custom Learning Management System (LMS), tailored specifically to the needs of solar manufacturing workers seeking to enhance their skills.

The digital twin will replicate the physical setup of SilFab’s manufacturing environment, including machinery layout, operational workflows, and safety zones. This digital model will be instrumental in creating VR scenarios that are not only realistic but also directly relevant to the trainees’ future working environment.

Using the digital twin as a base, we will create immersive VR experiences that allow trainees to interact with virtual representations of the actual equipment and processes used at SilFab Solar. These simulations will enable trainees to practice and hone their skills without the physical limitations or risks associated with a traditional manufacturing environment.

As trainees advance through the training modules, they will complete assessments that demonstrate their understanding and mastery of specific skills. Successful completion of these assessments will result in micro-certifications, which serve as tangible proof of their qualifications and readiness for employment in the solar manufacturing sector.

Outcome:

A comprehensive set of training modules will be developed, covering everything from basic handling and safety protocols to advanced manufacturing techniques, ensuring that the workforce is well-prepared for industry demands.

The accuracy and relevance of the training simulations will be significantly enhanced, providing trainees with experiences that closely mirror real-world operations.

Trainees will gain practical, applicable skills in a safe, controlled, and engaging manner, accelerating their learning process and increasing their confidence in performing job-specific tasks.

The micro-certification system will provide a clear, trackable pathway for skill acquisition and development, making it easier for employers to verify the capabilities of potential hires. Additionally, this system will help trainees understand their progress and areas needing improvement, facilitating a more targeted and efficient learning experience.
